The NE Grain & Feed Association chooses to dissolve
Industry advocacy evolves with the global economy as the Nebraska Grain and Feed Association (NEGFA) culminates in 125 years of service to Nebraska grain and feed manufacturing companies. For the 125 years, the Association has represented and served as a home for Nebraska lumber, livestock and ethanol companies before each industry evolved and formed its own association.
Over the past four years, the Association has embarked on a process of recovery, reflecting on its achievements and finding the best way to evolve to meet the needs of a changing industry today and in the future. .
Surveys, member visits, discussions with similar groups, and numerous board brainstorming and assessment discussions resulted in a decision. On March 10, 2021, the board of directors voted to dissolve the Nebraska Grain and Feed Association.
The Board of Directors supports the dissolution of the Association so that agribusiness resources can be better used where they are needed most and to best enable member companies to engage in national conversations and international and regulatory and policy training opportunities.
“It was a very difficult decision,” said NEGFA board chairman Scott Sterkel. “The Association has explored many options and exhausted our resources, always coming to the same conclusion. Due to declining member participation and lack of funds, we are unable to serve our members in a capacity that benefits them.
Members were invited to attend a special virtual membership meeting on April 22, 2021 to hear from the Board of Directors the timeline, process and highlights of the strategic plans discussed for the Association which ended with the decision of the advice to dissolve. Members were able to share their comments and concerns during this meeting. Staff and board members also responded to calls from stakeholders between the board vote and the special member meeting.
The board believes the disbandment will help align member resources with interests to better serve businesses in a world that continues to evolve.
