Dean Stewart of Portage will be helping it to the next level for a playoff run.
The ECHL Wichita Thunder loan the defenseman to the AHL Bakersfield Condors who start their first playoff series on Friday. Stewart is in his first professional season after spending the previous four years in the NCAA at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
The local product enjoyed an excellent rookie campaign in the ECHL as he landed 35 points, which was fifth among defenders. He also led all rookies in assists with 29 and was fifth among all freshmen in total points.
The AHL playoffs are structured a little differently than usual this year due to COVID-19, and in this case, the Condors will start the playoffs in the semi-finals. The Pacific Division is the only one competing in a tournament to crown a division champion and will see the second-seeded Condors take third place from the San Diego Gulls in a series of top three. The winner will face either first seed Henderson Silver Knights or the winner of the knockout qualifier between the bottom four.
Stewart will be looking to make an impact in any way he can during this shortened playoff starting May 21.
