Robert Christensen Obituary (2021) – Park Ridge, IL
Bob attended various high schools and high schools in Omaha, Nebraska, then graduated from Northwestern University in 1955, received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and also received his Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 1956 from Northwestern University. . He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Brotherhood. He was also a successful wrestler in both high school and Northwestern University.
During the years 1957 to 1974, Bob worked in various capacities for the city of Chicago. Here are some highlights from his career with the City of Chicago: Mayor Daley’s administrative agent (deputy mayor) between 1965-1967; Executive Director of the Public Building Commission from 1961 to 1974, where he was instrumental in building some $ 500 million in facilities for the city of Chicago, Cook County, the Chicago Board of Education, Chicago Park District and the City Colleges of Chicago. The projects included the Daley Center, 20 school / park projects, a juvenile detention center and court, police quarters and courts, a fire station, health facilities and a large underground car park. After leaving the city of Chicago, he continued his career in the Chicago area as Vice President of Development at Seay & Thomas, Inc., President of Globecon, Inc., Project Director for Hilton Hotels Corporation, President of Coder Taylor Associates, and Director of Office Real Estate Operations for the American Medical Association. The last job he held during his career was that of Deputy Managing Director of Development for the Metropolitan Fair and Exposition Authority from 1985, where he was tasked with leading the completion of the expansion project of $ 300 million McCormick Place for several years.
Bob has been an avid and avid golfer for most of his life. He was a long-time member of the Ridgemoor Country Club in Chicago and the Rio Verde Country Club in Arizona. He was also a strong supporter of Northwestern University’s athletic teams and programs.
Visitations will be held Thursday, May 27 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, 120 S. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL. Funeral Home Prayers at 10:30 am Friday May 28 at Mary Seat of Wisdom Church, (Cumberland at Granville Avenue, Park Ridge). Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. (everyone attending the funeral mass must be registered at the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080F4CA4A929A1F85-registration39) The intervention will follow immediately at the cemetery in the city of Maine, Park Ridge, IL. Immediately after the burial, a lunch will be held.
