Owensboro is America’s 10th best cornhole city.

This is according to the American Cornhole Organization.

Rankings are based on the number of people in each of the 10 cities that belong to the organization and participate in tournaments, according to the ACO.

Charlie Kase of Owensboro has been with the ACO for five years and turned pro four years ago.

“We’re number 10 thanks to the Owensboro Convention Center,” he says. “And the fact that it attracts people from Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and Illinois.

“We have quite a few players in the region. We organize a regional one at the fairgrounds once a month, and we play there every Wednesday and Friday evening. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games start at 7 a.m. People can just go out.

He said he travels to a major tournament about once a month.

“We have been to Tupelo, Kalamazoo and many other places in this part of the country,” he said.

Kase also owns Lucky’s Cornhole, which has been making cornhole boards for 10 years and bags for two years.

“I sell all over the country to everyone from backyard players to pros,” he said. “It’s just a fun game that doesn’t require great athletic ability. We are a big family. There is competition, but it’s friendly.

He said the sport has “really grown over the past five years”.

In the summer of 2017, the American Cornhole Organization’s Cornhole XII World Championships were held at the Owensboro Convention Center.

It drew 380 players from 27 states, including California, Florida and Michigan.

The ACO returns to Owensboro from January 7-9, 2022, for one of its major tournaments.
