Massachusetts’ million reasons to get vaccinated [PHIL-OSOPHY]
“Show me the money!”
Money brings people together when nothing else seems to be working. This is why the Commonwealth has decided to offer residents who have not yet been vaccinated a chance to win $ 1 million in the all-new Massachusetts VaxMillions Giveaway, intentionally targeting people who are reluctant to get vaccinated.
Officials believe that a cash incentive like this will entice people who have been hesitant to get the shot and then have a chance to win $ 1 million. I have a hunch that it will be felt once the word is out.
This special lottery is intended for residents 18 years of age and older, provided they are fully vaccinated with either the Johnson & Johnson single dose vaccine or the Moderna or Pfizer two dose inoculation. Fully immunized adults have the chance to win one of five million dollar cash prizes. Young fully immunized children aged 12 to 17 also have the chance to win one of five $ 300,000 scholarships. Eligible fully immunized residents can participate starting July 1, but remember that if you are not vaccinated you cannot play. A full explanation of registration is available on the official mass.gov site.
Many other states are doing something similar, such as Ohio, or taking their own approach. For example, Maine residents can choose between a free park pass, a hunting or fishing license, or a $ 20 LL Bean gift card. In Alabama, vaccinated residents were allowed two laps in their own vehicles on the Talladega Superspeedway. From free beer in New Jersey, tickets to Broadway shows and cultural events in New York, to a $ 100 West Virginia savings voucher, to people in Kentucky receiving a free lottery ticket for one. $ 225,000 statewide nightly raffle.
All of the major retailers offer benefits, so I think the idea of giving something of value to someone fully vaccinated can only soften the odds of success by persuading someone who blows hot and cold to warm up. at the thought of winning maybe $ 1 million. At the last glance, Ohio officials said they had increased vaccinations by 20% following their lottery announcement.
I like the idea of the VaxMillions lottery. It reminds me of the relevance of my brother’s tip the day before my wedding. He asked me if I knew what the difference was between a man buying a lottery ticket and a man arguing with his wife? He said that the man who buys the lottery ticket actually has a chance to win!
