Letter: Groene got it wrong about NU | Letters
Like Senator Mike Groene, I too am a repentant graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After all, we are ranked 133rd pathetic in US News and World Report 2021 “National Universities”.
Go figure out how we got ahead of academic dead ends like Colorado State, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State. Like Senator Groene, I expect better from our state university.
So imagine my distaste for these results of a 2018 independent analysis of the university’s impact on our state.
Did you know that one of the seven Nebraskans of working age has a NU degree? Deplorable!
Did you know that NU adds $ 12 million to the Nebraska economy every day? Without value!
Did you know that university employees and students provide $ 100 million in charitable giving and volunteering each year? Pitiful!
Finally, did you know that the NU employs 387 voters of Senator Groene and injects $ 45 million annually in economic benefits in his district? Off topic!
But hey, like the senator, I am not a cheerleader. I am only stating the facts.
