Leifert announces his retirement from People’s Bank & Trust | Business and finance
Peoples Bank & Trust Co. would like to congratulate Gary Leifert on his impending retirement from the bank.
Leifert’s career began in 1969, working in accounting and finance with the United States Air Force where he spent time in Missouri, Kansas, Texas, New Jersey and eventually , Vietnam. This was followed by a brief stint with the Veterans Administration in Lincoln, Nebraska, working in the Loan Guarantee Division.
In 1977, Leifert came to Boatman’s Bank in Troy, but left in 1988 to work for Winfield Banking Company. Eleven years later, as Chairman of Winfield Bank, he worked with Donald Thompson to merge Winfield Banking Company with Peoples Bank & Trust. Leifert then joined Peoples Bank & Trust as Senior Vice President after the merger.
During his 52+ years in the banking industry, Leifert will tell you, “I’ve done it all: janitor, snow shovel, cashier, accountant, carpenter, security guard, fry cook and do all types of loans. than you can imagine. ”
In addition to his duties as a senior lender at the bank, Leifert has also dedicated countless hours to numerous community organizations including Troy Rotary, Troy VFW Post 8828, Troy American Legion Post 94, and Bread for Life Food Pantry.
Leifert plans to stay busy in retirement with gardening, fishing and landscaping projects. He is also looking forward to spending more time traveling with his wife, Cheri.
