Lederman, CEO of Tonix, visits the future Bitterroot site
The head of Tonix Pharmaceuticals came to Montana this week to see the construction site for a new facility in Hamilton. CEO Dr Seth Lederman first stopped by Helena and met with Montana Governor Greg Gianforte, who expressed support for the development of bioscience in an area already established as a center for such activity in the ‘State. Hamilton is also home to the National Institutes of Health’s NIAID Rocky Mountain Laboratories. A private production facility of GlaxoSmithKline is also located in the city.
Dr Lederman then visited the recently acquired Tonix construction site on the northeastern outskirts of Hamilton. He met with community representatives and the media, where he expressed optimism about the future of bioscience opportunities in southwest Montana.
Ravalli County and the City of Hamilton have developed the infrastructure to support such high-tech bioscience facilities, which began years ago with Edgar Ribi’s Ribi Immunochem. Also on Thursday, Dr Lederman participated in a panel discussion with Dr Marshall Bloom of Rocky Mountain Labs, Hamilton Mayor Dominic Farrenkopf, Ravalli County Commissioner Greg Chilcott and Chairman of the County Economic Development Authority of Ravalli Ryan Oster.
During this panel, the importance of a public-private partnership was underlined. Dr Lederman was also eager to work with the newly licensed Bitterroot Community College and neighboring Montana University. Dr Bloom welcomed the expansion of research facilities in the same Rocky Mountain Labs neighborhood, and all panelists mentioned the cooperation of scientists and officials in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Lederman told KLYQ: “It is unique, not only in Montana, but in the United States and perhaps the world, to have so much expertise in vaccines and infectious diseases so closely related. others … time and we would have the capacity to potentially partner with them and manufacture their vaccines to the kind of quality that would be required for human trials. He thanked Julie Foster of the Ravalli County Economic Development Authority for helping to organize this week’s visit.
