How Garth Brooks’ Tour Could Impact Lincoln’s Economy: Nebraska Public Media
Country music superstar Garth Brooks will perform at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln in August. This is the first concert in the stadium in 34 years.
Game days at Memorial Stadium bring in an additional $ 5 million per football weekend, according to Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau director Jeff Maul. He said the office was delighted to host Garth Brooks’ tour of Lincoln.
“You look at an event like this and you say, ‘Can we achieve $ 5 million in economic impact with a concert like this?’ You bet we can, ”he said. “It will definitely open things up. This is great news for our hotels, it is great news for our restaurants.”
Maul said the concert will bring together people from across the state and the Midwest. With up to 60,000 people able to attend, he plans to organize other events around the concert.
“We want people to come early,” he said. “We want them to stay a few days in the back and really talk about the performing arts, the great shopping, the great destination that we are.”
But Maul said the business boom depends entirely on the confidence of travelers by August.
“It’s up to people to really feel comfortable traveling again and enjoying a community,” he said. “I really think we can create value in the destination not only to attract people for one night, but for multiple nights, which only compounds and pushes the economic impact upmarket.”
The director said the Lincoln concert was a needed economic boost and a celebration of the return to big events and country music.
