Daily recap: why Kamari Wilson’s visit to UGA matters
Here is the May 12 edition of the Daily Recap presented by JFQ Lending.
Five of the most important visits
With official visits starting next month, Jake Reuse has compiled five of the most important visits Georgia will host. Unsurprisingly, these players are coming back Branson robinson (Germantown / Madison, Miss.), Tight Toe Oscar Delp (West Forsyth / Cumming, GA), security Kamari wilson (IMG Academy / Bradenton, Fla.), Defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton (McDonogh / Owings Mills, Maryland) and offensive tackle Jacob Hood (Hillsboro / Nashville, Tennessee).
Reuse explained that Wilson would be a huge pickup if he enlisted due to the Bulldogs’ need for security.
“As far as defensive players are concerned, Wilson appears to be the closest Georgian prospect to sign for some time, and he will travel to Athens in mid-June for his official visit,” Reuse wrote. “The nation’s No. 2 in safety for his class, Wilson would fill a major need for the Bulldogs in this class, with the possibility of early playing time available, heading into next season. Florida is and has been a major player in this recruitment. And considering he’s a Sunshine State native, the Gators should never be left out of the race. Still, Georgia are hoping to close that recruiting early and make Wilson a touchstone in the defensive backfield, which took shape in a strong way early in the cycle.
Woods reveals his thoughts on Dawgs
Defensive end of the 2023 class Peter Woods (Thompson / Alabaster, Ala.) Explained why Georgia is among the teams he plans to assist to further his football career. No one is surprised, a lot of it has to do with defensive line coach Tray Scott.
“Coach Scott is a great man. He has connections to people in the state of Alabama, and I often hear a lot of good things about him, ”Woods said. “Our relationship is really strong. I’ve been talking to him for several years now. I’m just grateful he took my chance so soon. Let’s see if I take the opportunity.
Hoops: Crean has some interesting words for Johnson’s transfer
Guards KD Johnson and Andrew Garcia became the eighth and ninth UGA players to enter the transfer portal since the start of the 2020-21 season. Specifically with Johnson, however, head coach Tom crean wrote some interesting words in a statement released to the media.
“Considering Georgia Basketball’s standards and expectations, we are very much in agreement with KD’s desire to research a new program,” Crean said. “We certainly wish him the best and really hope that he will be successful in all areas to move forward.”
Johnson was Georgia’s second-leading scorer last season with 13.5 points per game. Garcia averages 8.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
